Managing Partner · Co-Founder
Heads the Railroad Commission, lithium-brine, and geothermal practices; co-heads oil and gas. Corporate, M&A, and capital formation. Former chief legal officer and business owner. State Bar of Texas, 2008.
Scott Beckmen is the co-founder and managing partner of Windward Counsel. He is a corporate transactional attorney with more than fifteen years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, energy, capital formation, real estate, and interactive media — and he has spent much of that career on the client's side of the table.
Scott's practice centers on the transactions that build and finance energy and growth companies: entity formation and governance, buy- and sell-side M&A, joint ventures, Regulation D private placements, convertible-debt financings, and fund formation. In the energy space he has structured placements and financings across the Permian Basin, the Anadarko Basin, and the Smackover lithium trend, advised on non-operated working interest programs and mineral acquisitions in Texas, Oklahoma, and Utah, and counseled critical-minerals and geothermal ventures on project structure and capital. He heads the firm's Railroad Commission, lithium-brine, and geothermal practices and clients, co-heads the oil and gas practice with Rand Marsh, and leads the firm's fractional general counsel practice and its gaming, technology, and tokenization work.
Before founding Windward Counsel in 2026, Scott was a partner at several national and regional law firms, including Munck Wilson Mandala, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, and Stinson. He previously founded and ran the Beckmen Law Firm. Outside private practice he has served as chief legal officer of a venture-stage sports and AI technology company and co-owned a land services company with more than two hundred contractors in the field — experience that informs how he reads risk, runway, and deal terms.
Having bought legal services as a general counsel and sold them as a partner, Scott built Windward around the pricing model he wished he had been offered: a fixed number quoted before the work begins, a partner doing the work, and tooling that removes the hours nobody should be paying for. How we work describes the model.
